  1. This was one of Issues best programs ever. The “certainty” vs “security” issue is what divides the LCMS from most of Protestanism, let alone all other Christian denominations. Carter Lindberg in “Third Reformation?” addresses this issue very thoroughly. The charismatic “movement” in the LCMS and elsewhere is all about “security,” or as I heard one pastor put it, “something more.” I have made a few CD’s of this program and given them to friends, both in the LCMS and outside. It should be required listening. Revs. Wilken and Wolfmueller do an excellent job of unpacking the subject.

If you listen carefully to the likes of Rick Warren, Joel Osteen, and Joyce Meyer, it will become apparent that their preaching is really all about “security.” They do not know “certainty.”
However, beware! After a half-hour of one of those preachers, I strongly suggest you listen to a sermon by William Cwirla, Matt Harrison, or my own DP, Terry Cripe, as effective antidotes.
