AC IV ≠ EO — 13 Comments

  1. I was well acquainted with a Russian Orthodox priest. This was one of his biggest issues with Lutheranism (and, he believed it to be a problem with all protestants, if only!): Also they teach that men cannot be justified before God by their own strength, merits, or works, but are freely justified for 2] Christ’s sake, through faith, when they believe that they are received into favor, and that their sins are forgiven for Christ’s sake, who, by His death, has made satisfaction for our sins. 3] This faith God imputes for righteousness in His sight.
The scandal of the cross is certainly alive and well with our brethren in the East.

  2. This post needs development and explanation, because it seems to be nothing more than a response to the comments in the author’s previous post. To leave it as is runs the risk of seeming mere petulance on the part of the author.

If I am mistaken in this, then I beg forgiveness of the brethren and sistren, as well as of the author.

  3. Pastor Roemke,

Who are you referring to when you say “they teach?” Does the “they” refer to Lutherans or EO?

Forgive my ignorance, but your last sentence implies to me the EO agree with Lutherans regarding the scandal of the cross. Am I correct?

    James P.

  4. Sorry if I don’t have the detailed understanding which you have. Based on your comments elsewhere, you obviously have detailed knowledge of Orthodoxy and Lutheranism. I do not. Just trying to learn and understand.

  5. Rev. JA Roemke :
The scandal of the cross is certainly alive and well with our brethren in the East.

I also don’t understand this. Are you saying our brethren in the East agree with us? Thanks, Pastor.

  6. but we preach Christ crucified, which is a scandal to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles. (1 Corinthians 1:23)

  7. Rev. Kevin Vogts :
    Very succinct article!

    Um, succinct?

This reminds me of my teen-aged impatience with my mother’s long discussions of all manner of stuff from important to trivial. I would tell her to get it down to ten words or less and then tell me! Oooh, did that make her mad!
