Steadfast in Society: Plan B becomes Plan A

Here it is folks! Lives ending to rousing applause. Why? For the sake of reducing teen pregnancy in the State of New York. Because certainly there can be no other way to avoid teen pregnancy other than murder… right? Many schools in the State of New York have been giving students Plan B, also known as, the morning after pill to reduce the number of teen pregnancies. If only there were another way, like teaching our children abstinence and a scriptural understanding of the evils of premarital sex. But nope, murder is in fashion this season and the ivory towers have put there seal of approval on it giving what I call, “all children left behind” the go ahead.

Should we be so surprised though? We have seen our government trample on and make a mockery of our Christian consciences with the mandate of the HHS ruling requiring Christians to pay for and endorse contraceptives and abortifacients through so called “healthcare.” The evils here are horrible enough but the wake of such acts have made ripples over into our schools as we can see. Legalized murder is not only becoming accepted more and more it is becoming a “cure for the common cold.” In these schools in New York children as young as 13 years old are being given Plan B at their own request and are ending the lives of prenatal humanity often times without knowing the consequences of their actions. How can they? They are 13 years old! It is atrocious to say the least that a child of 13 or 14 can’t buy cigarettes until they are 18 because they are bad for you, but if you want to murder your own child at 13 or 14, have at it… in fact our schools will not only support but will help you in your quest for fetal annihilation.

The actions taken by this school system is horrific and morbid. And I fear it is only to become a trend. Society has become so self gratifying that it has become almost impossible for a child to own up to any responsibility for themselves. I have seen the elderly shoved into D rated “old folks” homes because they are of no use to their brat children and we are seeing the same actions now from parents and from societal influence that it is okay to cast aside nuisances for the sake of self regardless of if it is a human life or not. And it is clear that this is now being taught in our schools. According to The New York Post School nurses, who are “stock piled” with the contraceptive Plan B, are giving teens the abortifacient to end the lives of their unborn babies without the knowledge or consent of the teen’s parents. Which leads us to this: Who is raising our children and what are they being taught? It is now clear that our children in New York are now being taught a catechesis of death in direct and meaningful opposition to God’s Holy Word and over the consciences of God’s own people.

Something must be said so I will say it, “Parents, train up your children in the way that they should go and they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6)!” Let us not leave it up to the schools and the theological liberal and morally decrypted to raise our children. Put a small catechism in your child’s hands and plant the six chief parts into their little memories that they will not depart from the faith. Many of these children are being handed a prenatal assault weapon by adults whom they are supposed to be able to trust and yet who are leading them into murder. This is what is being ingrained and taught to these children and it leads to the wide spread understanding the murdering your child is not only okay but it is the intellectual and socially responsible thing to do. This is the government once again poking its nose in and destroying our guaranteed freedom of religion and crippling our consciences with important information being begrudged to Christian parents regarding their children.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther pointed out clearly what our parents ought to do regarding their children according to scripture in the table of duties in his Small Catechism. He quotes Ephesians here, “Ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Parents have the sole responsibility to raise their children in the ways of the Word of God and the responsibility to usher them into the house of the Lord that they would receive the Word and the blessed sacraments of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is not up to the schools to catechize our children and to suggest that death is a viable option to a particular “hindrance” due to sexual relations regardless of consent. Further it is for our children to, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right. Honor your father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.” It is the duty of the children to obey their parents and their parent’s guidance insofar as the parents are teaching according to God’s word. No school nurse. Not board of this or that. Parents teach, Children learn from your parents what Scripture teaches clearly on this matter of prenatal murder. Also you children learn from what God’ word has spoken in purity and all clarity, “Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you…”

I pray vigilantly for those who are undergoing the tyranny over a free people to murder the unborn and for those whose conscience are being ignored and trampled on and ask each of you who read this to join me in constant prayer for them. Pray for the parents of Christian homes who are being disregarded in the training of their children in the way that they should go. In times like these I am grateful for the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, our stance on these issues, the RSO’s that affirm life in the womb, and for President Matthew Harrison who has taken an unpopular stance in society for our confession of faith. And I quote (somewhat) President Harrison here as it applies to this and all governmental intrusions upon our faith, the faith which has been given to us by God Himself through Baptism, “Please get the federal government (and thereby school systems)…out of our consciences.” Lord, have mercy on us.

Further discussion is welcomed, but please keep it to the content of the article or discussion of the Scriptures, Confessions, or our Church Fathers on the issue.

    Pastor Scheer,
I’m very disappointed that you decided to remove Pastor McCain’s comments. His comments were very germane to the issues that are being discussed on this thread. It appears that because he was expressing a different viewpoint concerning birth control/contraception, you removed his comments. God has richly blessed me over the years with faithful pastors. I have never heard a sermon or conversation that called out birth control/contraception as sinful in my sixty plus years as a member of LCMS congregations.
It appears the views expressed by Dr. Heidenreich and others are extreme. I expect to be ‘thrown under the bus’ by my comments, but so be it.

Once a discussion passes two pages (100 posts) it is likely to become an argument rather than a discussion.
As one whose posts have occasionally been removed 🙂 I can say that sometimes a a post can be non productive. (Pr McCain may have expressed a view more in line with your own but unless Pr Scheer used a global delete … [something PTM does on his own list]… you will probably find he has said it several times already.)
Dr. Heidenreich’s views are in the minority these days, but our grandparents would understand them perfectly. It’s true that a number of topics which should be taught in our churches aren’t much, these days.

I expect that if I sent you a sermon on divorce which argues that Christ said, no way, for no reason, or if you do, stay unmarried; anything else is adultery, it would really curl your hair.
I read it yesterday; it was written recently, too, not a century ago.

Diane, I left the majority of Rev. McCain’s comments stand. I took out the ones which repeated something he already said and also the ones which misrepresented Dr. Heidenreich’s position.

As far as your 60 years in the LCMS, it doesn’t surprise me at all. Since the 30’s our Synod has entertained these views that we have among us concerning birth control. Prior to that, the Lutheran Church spoke with a unified voice against such things. Dr. Heidenreich’s views would be right in line with that unified voice of the past.
