I Just got Out of the BJS Conference Planning Meeting and Heard the Phrase “Maid-Rite Sliders” Not to Mention “Manly Man’s Breakfast,” by Pr. Rossow

January 16th, 2013 Post by

The food at the annual BJS Conference is always great and this year it will be no different. For lunch on Saturday we are serving two varieties of sliders – pulled pork and maid-rite/sloppy joe. The meal will be rounded out with cole slaw (goes good on the pulled pork slider if you’re from Pittsburgh), baked beans, chips, cookies for dessert and some fresh cut veggies.

You may want to have a few of those veggies after chowing down on our annual Manly Man’s Breakfast earlier in the day, hosted by yours truly. It will include sausage, bacon, coffee cake, scrambled eggs, and a variety of specialty pancakes. (I sure picked a bad month to go on a diet.)

Dinner Friday night will be our usual pizza night with plenty of deep dish Chicago-style pizza to go around along with a sundae bar for dessert and for appetizers – bacon wrapped breadsticks dipped in parmesan cheese and hot bread served with flavored olive oil and more parmesan.

All of this is included in the low price conference registration. Click on the banner on the top of our home page for more details. “Quick, somebody get me a napkin I’ve got olive oil and barbeque sauce dripping on my Book of Concord!”

We put cole slaw on pulled pork in Missouri too.

Wish I could go. Don’t have the vacation time available.

Pastor Rossow–with you having grown up in Iowa I’m SHOCKED that you would equate Maid-Rite and Sloppy Joe. ERROR IS CREEPING IN! Thus I volunteer to make legitimate Main-Rite for the 2014 BJS Conference.

OK, for this west coastie, what in the world is a slider?

“Slider” is that like a hoagie? I wonder…

    cattail,

A slider is a small hamburger – like a White Castle burger.

    Chuck,

I thank you for your rebuke. I wish to stop the creep of error.

Here is the clarification. We invented a new sandwhich which is a combination of a maid-rite and a sloppy joe.

Now, to further complicate things, we have decided to offer three sliders: one maid-rite (we accept your offer), one sloppy joe, and one pulled pork.

I wonder if I wrongly defined “pulled pork” if I could get you to do that one to? :)

What?!?!?!! No bugs? No snake? No wild boar or bush meat? I hope my stomach does not get upset! Maybe I will bring a snack with me just in case.

    May,

Obviously you don’t practice church growth which teaches that you are to do as the natives do. You will eat pizza and you will like it.

If Pr. Rossow would solicit some confessional Texan contributors, you could have feral hog, which may be close enough. (Some eat rattlesnake, too, but it hasn’t been offered to me yet.) Rossow wouldn’t have to go further than Iowa to get venison… fed on corn and tasty!
    (My son keeps me supplied.)
[We've got "mudbugs"... better known as crawfish and a delicacy in Cajun country.]

But we’ve got a restaurant which offers “Chicago style” pizza, too; it’s approved by an Illinois native and it’s really pretty good!
