The sendling is from the German sendlinge, literally meaning, “sent ones.” It’s also related to the Greek word apostle.
Sendlinge was the word used for Wm. Loehe’s missionaries to the United States in response to F.C.D. Wyneken’s letter, The Distress of the German Lutherans in North America.
