Congregations Matter Exposed – an article by Dr. Noland and the Lutheran Concerns Association

We’ve been particularly quiet this LCMS election season – there will be some reviews of resolutions at some point, but this is a commendable article put out by Lutheran Concerns Association about the organization Congregations Matter (which Steadfast exposed a couple years ago as Jesus First rebranded).  It is republished here because it exposes the lies and deceptions that should be denounced by any honest member of the LCMS (including those men endorsed by the organization mailings).  You don’t have to be Pro-Harrison or whatever, but you should be honest and not “spin” everything to the point of violating commandments.  The LCMS can do better no matter what side(s) of the sad LCMS political spectrum you find yourself. Dr. Noland has done better.  Thank you, Dr. Noland, for clarifying and bringing some light to these darkness touting regions of the LCMS.

Congregations Matter Exposed – an article by Dr. Noland and the Lutheran Concerns Association — 10 Comments

  1. Every time I post on Congregations Matter’s FB page I comment how the 8th Commandment is being broken by their headlines and the content of the posts. I appreciate the accurate post by Dr. Noland. For years the 8th Commandment was put forth by Jesus First et al and now they seem to have forgotten it. So sad. So wrong.

  2. I read the article and what struck me was how much of this stuff really is an outflow from Jerry Kiesnick, Jesus First (now Congregations Matter) and the Blue Ribbon Committee. Much of what was done was done orderly and in accord with the by-laws and convention resolutions. The one thing that was not addressed was the recent Congregation Matters flap over the postcards signed by Harrison.

  3. I thank Dr. Noland’s for this well-stated post. Every post I have written on Congregations Matter FB page I have pointed out their breaking of the 8th Commandment. It is really sad. Lord, have mercy!

  4. Thank you for this article. This really cleared up what was happening with Congregations Matter and where they are coming from!

  5. @David Busby #3

Of course they banned you. Liberals shut down free speech because they cannot handle different opinions. The most intolerant people are the “tolerant”. How can they allow you to get in the way of their perfectly crafted screed? Cannot have you poke easy holes in their flimsy arguments.

  6. I registered & got a login ID at the CM website and tried to post some comments & questions & hit [Send] or whatever you’re supposed to do. Never did get a reply or any kind of response. Maybe it is only one way communication. ??

  7. I think I understand what the problem has been with Congregations Matter, but my question is a little different. If they’re concerned with the power of Dr. Harrison does that also then apply to the local congregations? So could a local pastor replace members of boards and committees approved by the local congregation? In any case, I’ve really enjoyed reading about Dr. Harrison and hope he’s re-elected to lead our synod.

  8. Dr. Noland: Some of the “Jesus First” articles were archived:

Changes in Congregations Should Lead to Changes in Synod’s Structure –

Proposed Constitutional Changes Clarify That Mission Is Fundamental –

Synod Has Had Effective Mission Leadership –

Change in the LCMS has had a Noble History –

PDF versions of the mailings were also archived:

What is quite humorous is this (

Jesus First calls on the members of the ACELC to support the duly elected officers of the LCMS, especially Rev. Matthew Harrison, without dictating what he should or should not be doing or saying. Stating what “will not be tolerated” prior to a conversation compromises President Harrison’s desire to bring unity through conversation.

Instead of supporting him, they’re now criticizing him.
