Convention Day Two – The Good.

2016-LCMS-Convention-Logo-1024x684-300x200Day two of the National Convention of the LCMS has concluded.  Today had some really good results in elections.  The new Secretary of the Synod is going to be Rev. Dr. John Sias.  He will be able to serve our Synod faithfully for a good long time.  Some Board of Directors elections also went very well.  The Convention also passed some good resolutions.  One was about having a Lutheran identity for the Concordia University System.  The best resolution of the day was Resolution 6-02, which set out the Biblical and Confessional pattern of the pastoral office and what qualifications are required for it.  When contested by the group of folks bent on nit-picking everything, the response of the Floor Committee simply reminded them of the disputed sections simply being from Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions (they objected to the same words we find in Scripture and the Confessions, go figure).  That resolution is worth reading if you haven’t already.  Glad to hear the convention overwhelmingly approve the resolution that confessed nothing more than the doctrine of the Scriptures and Lutheran Confessions.

In another article I will go on to the “ugly” of the day.
