This is part 2 of a 3-part series on what the things we see in church can teach us. For part 1, click here

A Congregational Study of the “Teach us, Augustana” Classes: Class II
Rev. Gaven M. Mize
Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church

What do you expect when you come into church? Who do you hope to meet?

Do we have expectations for God? Do we expect God to show up in our churches and why do you think so? Promises?

What do we believe is on the Altar in our churches?

If we believe that Christ is truly present in his body and blood on the altar how are we to greet Him? (see the Gerhardt hymn, “O Lord, How Shall I Meet You”; LSB, 334)

Why should the altar guild lay out the elements and altar ware with reverence and compassion?

Christ’s body and blood are surrounded by what?

What is the elevation of the host/chalice represent?

Why should we genuflect after the elevation?

What does genuflect mean?

When (and how often) should we come to the altar of the Lord?
