Mens Breakfast Group Pledges $1,200 for the New Lutheran Center in Africa, by Pr. Rossow

The capital campaign for Lutherans In Africa (LIA) new Lutheran Center in Nairobi, Kenya continues to raise funds all around the world and from mission-minded folks who want to see Lutheranism thrive all across the continent. The most recent gifts are coming from a small group of men who meet twice a month to study the Lutheran Confessions at Bethany Lutheran Church and School in Naperville, Illinois. Just this week they pledged $100 a month for the cause.

Many of these men have also pledged or given gifts in the general fund-raiser recently held at Bethany which raised dover $25,000 for the campaign. That $25,000 was then matched by a generous member for a grand total of $50,000 and the gifts and pledges are still coming in.

Gifts and pledges are coming from all corners of the globe. The conservative Lutherans in Finland have pledged over $100,000 and there are parishes in England and Australia that are supporting the cause. In addition there are 20 congregations in the US that are holding home gatherings and mission festivals to support the cause. A small church in west Texas has set a goal of raising $50,000 for the campaign.

To join this growing group of donors you can click here to read more about the campaign and make an online donation or email Wittenberg Church Consultants and request a hard copy of the campaign brochure and a pledge card.

LIA is the special mission emphasis of the Brothers of John the Steadfast. A gift of $500, $50 or even $5 will be a great blessing for the cause and help make this Lutheran Center a reality. 1. Every other week it is just coffee and donuts but on the off weeks (actually I guess they are the “on” weeks) one of our members who is a Southwest Airlines pilot and amateur chef makes some really delectable breakfast entrees.

  2. The breakfasts that our men have cooked would rival many good restaurants. Last month it was pumpkin pancakes with pecans, eggs, and really good bacon (and yes–fruit). We have had shrimp-n-grits, eggs benedict with salmon, breakfast pizzas (sausage and cheese or bacon and cheese), various baked egg dishes, gourmet French toast. I could go on and on. But the best part of the group is that it has been meeting for years studying Confessional writings and books of the Bible, and donated thousands of dollars to missions. Right now we are back to basics– the Small Catechism. We just finished Galatians.

  3. WOW! That is wonderful! Thanks be to God and these faithful men who want to help get sound doctrine taught in Africa. It is a rarity.
