A Poor and a Good Excuse for Lack of Micro-Koinonia Progress, by Pr. Rossow

I have a poor excuse and a good excuse for taking so long for the latest entry in the Micro-Koinonia project.

The poor excuse is that I have had a lazy summer. Now keep in mind, for me a lazy summer means 55 hours of work a week instead of 65 and simply stoking the 19,000 fires I have burning and not starting 100 new ones. I have spent a few hours a week this spring and summer building a shed in my backyard. Like most things I do, it got a little out of hand, but hey, it has been a lot of fun. It’s too bad I don’t need therapy because it has also been very therapeutic. Prior to this I had hardly ever even picked up a hammer so it has also been a wonderful learning experience and very rewarding. The landscaping (not finished yet) was no problem because that has been a twenty five year hobby of mine. I have been threatening our chickens by telling them it is the new ostrich coupe. Happy Bob, the world’s best cat, arch enemy of synodocat and the cuter of the two beings pictured in my avatar, has enjoyed wandering to and fro in our new out building.

All in all, maybe that is not such a bad excuse after all, considering “idle hands” and all. The better excuse for a lack of koinonia entries is the character of my koinoia interlocutor, Pastor Mark Schulz. It’s hard to debate with someone who seeks your advice on doctrine.

The other day I got an email from Mark asking for my opinion on the doctrinal portion of his church’s new website. Now that is what I call koinonia. I am not expecting that he will swallow my suggestions hook, line and sinker but it is rather brotherly of him to ask. It is also ironic because the next step I was thinking of for the Micro-Koinonia project was to critique each other’s websites.

One of the things I did do was send him the doctrinal page on our new website (still under construction). Pastor Fisk has been re-doing our site and as expected, it includes a very engaging, historic and confessional page on what we believe.

So, I hope this lazy streak ends soon. I can’t say I haven’t enjoyed it. I still have some antique doors and windows to install and a few more plants to move around on the shed project, then maybe we can get serious about the Micro-Koinonia project again.
