Confessional Lutherans for Christ’s Commission April 2011 Newsletter

(The Confessional Lutherans for Christ’s Commission is one of the many confessional groups that regularly posts on this website. Like BJS they seek to equip laymen to know and support Confessional Lutheranism. CLCC posts are archived on the Regular Columns page of this website.)

Following is their April 2011 newsletter; check out their website for more information.

A couple of points to highlight regarding CLCC’s work:

If any of your churches are involved in helping to support a foreign missionary you might want to look closely at what is going on for the June Mission Festival in Gresham, OR. CLCC would be more than happy to team up with a congregation or other confessional group to help raise funds for your missionary. We have another festival “in the hopper” for this fall in Northern California. Watch for news on that in the coming months.

Initial work has already begun on conducting an Evangelism, Outreach and Affirmation seminar in Nebraska in October, so it is not too early to think about what it takes to host one at your church. It takes a few months to plan and publicize a successful seminar, so contact CLCC early!

CLCC Anchor

Anchor – April 2011

Spring and Easter are finally around the corner. I’m glad because it’s been a very long winter in MN at least.

The retreat held at the end of February at Lutheran Island Camp in Henning MN was a blessing for us. We had a small group, but the topic: “God Serves Us: Through us- to our Neighbor” was good, and all in attendance enjoyed the day while learning. I think we might give it a try one more year, and see if we can get a few more people to come and enjoy a day at camp while learning. Thank you Pr Karl Weber for teaching us. Thank you, Pr Rob Jarvis for leading morning Matins and to Pr Al Jeske for the closing devotion/worship. I appreciate your serving us in this way.

To let you know, Pr. Jarvis has undergone a bone marrow/stem cell transplant, which used his own stem cells, to treat lymphoma since the retreat was held at the end of February. He is still at a transplant house in Rochester, MN as I’m writing this newsletter. We are glad he is doing so well. Glory be to God! He seems to be well on the road to recovery, but he still might have some tough days ahead. Please keep him in your prayers.

Thanks also to Pr. Karl Weber of Ottertail, MN, as the CLCC has started to develop a new seminar on Vocations. It will be based on the presentation Pastor Weber made at the CLCC Retreat at Luther Island Camp in February. As it gets closer to completion we make announcements when it is available for scheduling and it is posted on the Website.

Gene submitted the following for the letter:

CLCC Pricing Starting in the 2nd quarter of 2011, CLCC will be making some downward price adjustments for those seminars that have a registration fee, as opposed to those where a contribution and a free will offering is taken. Essentially, all seminar registration fees have been reduced by $2.00 to $2.50 per registration, except for Your Reformation Walk. The cost of the CD version of Your Reformation Walk has been increased to $15.00, plus $5.00 shipping and handling. The Epitome price stays the same. The shipping and handling costs for all clothing items has been increased by $1.00, making it $6.00.

Welcome New Congregational Members The following churches have joined as members of CLCC in February. As members they are entitled to use CLCC source materials within their congregations.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 11716 Floral Dr., Whittier, CA 90601;

The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 902 S Maple St. Inglewood, CA 90305;

Redeemer Lutheran Church, 520 Thayer Ave., Richland, WA 99352

Regional Conference Don’t forget the upcoming CLCC Regional Conference to be held in Bloomington, MN, at the Ramada Mall of America on May 3 & 4. Tuesday afternoon will be sessions on The Call Process and Financial Management for Congregations. Pastor Tim Rossow, of Brothers of John the Steadfast, will deliver our closing presentation dealing with church administration on Wednesday morning. See the CLCC Website www.theclcc.org for info on the agenda and registration. It would always be helpful for planning if you get your registrations in as early as possible. The ACL conference will start right after ours and continue on through the week. The two organizations are cooperating on room rates and facility usage to save dollars for all. Ask for the ACL Conference room rate when you make your reservation.

Our Evangelism, Outreach & Affirmation Seminar This revamped seminar was presented three times in February and will be presented at Concordia – Irvine on April 9. It was well received and the new material makes the seminar more in line with Mission from the Cross, by Dr. Schultz. This book is also being used by LCMS to reset mission policy for the two new mission boards of the synod.

Speaking of seminars, early May is the time to start the early planning process for August and later seminars.

Memberships By the time you receive this all unpaid annual membership fees for 2011will be past due. Please get them in as soon as you can. Make out the check for $30.00 for individual memberships and get them in the mail to CLCC at 2200 SW Homer Ross Loop, McMinnville, OR 97128. We hope to be able to offer payment by using PayPal via the Website soon.

Mission Festival. CLCC, in cooperation with “Called to Confess,” a Northwest confessional group, will be sponsoring a Mission Festival on June 10 & 11, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Gresham, OR. There will be a banquet on Friday evening, with Rev. B. Setter, Chairman of the Board for International Missions (LCMS), as guest speaker. Saturday’s proceedings will be a presentation by Pr. Rabe, a Kenya missionary, followed by a panel Q & A session on missions and selected lessons from CLCC’s seminar on Evangelism, Outreach & Affirmation. Full details were sent out in an email and are also posted on the CLCC Website under upcoming events. The money raised will go for the support of Pr. Rabe in the coming year.

Thanks, Gene. Now Kari is writing again:

We hope you will keep the CLCC in your prayers. We are hoping for more people to get involved, willing to assist in teaching so we can get to more places in the country. You can also support us by joining and becoming a member. Of course, helping to get a seminar into your area would also be a great help. We need people to get their congregation or circuit interested in lay education.

In Christ, Kari Anderson, PR for the CLCC
