BJS Newsreel: BJS Conference Registration Deadline Approaching – Harrison as Banquet Speaker and Presentations on His Threefold Emphasis

The deadline for registering for the BJS banquet and conference is midnight Sunday, February 6. The conference is being held at Bethany Lutheran Church and School in Naperville, Illinois in the western Chicago suburbs.

The headliner for the conference is President Harrison’s banquet presentation on Friday night. It is possible to buy tickets for the banquet only ($20). The conference continues on Saturday with three presentations on President Harrison’s threefold emphasis on the church: witness, mercy and life together.

The conference has become well known for its richand varied liturgical worship. There is also a manly man’s breakfast on Saturday morning as well as a hearty lunch on Saturday featuring homemade soups and Italian beef sandwiches. As if that weren’t enough, dessert for Friday night’s banquet will be an “ablazing” flaming cherries jubilee.

There are already over 200 tickets purchased for the banquet and over 100 registrants for the conference but there is plenty of room for more.

Tickets for the entire conference, including the banquet are $50. For more details click here.

  1. Better have the SP give the blessing on the cherries jubilee – we remember what happen to the last two when they used “unauthorized” fire near the sanctuary.

  2. If President Harrison’s presentation is anything like the one he gave at the Joint North Theological Conference in Fargo…you won’t be disappointed. He is a wonderful speaker and very personable. His explanation of the new emphasis for synod is great. Don’t forget your Lutheran Study Bible. 😉

  3. My wife and I are registered to attend again this year. BTW, can you tell us which order of service will be used for the Divine Service, Saturday? If it’s setting two again, I’d like to preview it a few time to familiarize myself with it. It took me by surprise last year, and never having used it before, I struggled with the liturgical music. Thanks.

  4. The spiritual songs this year in the liturgy for the Divine Service are mostly from setting III, of LSB, a.k.a. “the Common Service”. Vespers will be mostly from LSB’s “Evening Prayer”.

  5. I was wondering the same thing… how SHOULD we dress. This will be my first BJS conference. I am extremely excited for it. Is it Friday yet? Oh, yeah… GO PACK GO! (had to say that.)

  6. The dress will run the gamut. There will be some with a suit (few) and some with a sport coat. Semi-casual to casual is the norm for most folks. Since President Harrison is speaking Friday night and there a 100 or so who are coming just for that and not the conference, there may be a little higher standard for that. If you come casual, even on Friday night, you probably will not be alone.
