A Message from Rev. Matthew C. Harrison

This just came in from the LCMS WR-HC email list:

Dear friend,

“I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus” (I Cor. 1:4).

This is the very first missive I’ve composed since being elected president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. I want to thank you for your unwavering generosity to the needy, your prayers, your support, and your enthusiasm for the work of LCMS World Relief and Human Care. You have profoundly touched the lives of millions.

We all have questions as a result of the actions of the Synod’s 64th Regular Convention in July in Houston. Huge changes in the church’s structure were passed. The Board for Human Care Ministries’ responsibilities, along with the responsibilities of all other program boards, have been consolidated into National and International mission boards. The newly elected Synod president is now responsible for working through and implementing the changes voted on by convention delegates.

So what does this change mean for the mercy work of LCMS World Relief and Human Care?

It means that your help is needed now more than ever.

We will not only continue to exist and continue the myriad efforts that your generous gifts have supported, but as we streamline the entire LCMS organization, the ministry of mercy will saturate and affect virtually all of the Synod’s life. Mercy is who Jesus is. Mercy is what we are all about. Mercy is who I am to the core of my being, whether serving as executive director of LCMS World Relief and Human Care or president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Our work together will continue, and I ask that your gifts also continue. Please click on the Give Now opportunity below and send a gift of $100, $200, or even more if you can. Your gift will be used where it is most needed to share Christ’s mercy with people in need through the work of LCMS World Relief and Human Care.

I know many face financial challenges. But please give as the Lord has blessed you. We can’t stop sharing Christ’s mercy.

In deepest love in Christ,

Matthew C. Harrison
LCMS President-Elect
