Brian Yamabe has put together a great video that really focuses the question of the LCMS convention: “This or That?” Like him we choose “This.”

I don’t think it was an either-or of IE with KFUO, but with IE and “The Essence” on KFUO. In that regard, I’d much rather get with “this” (IE) than “that” (“The Essence”). You?

Who said there was a problem with Rev. Kieschnick on the park bench with the lady and young boy?

  2. I don’t think the vid is questioning President Kieschnick’s sincerity. It’s the non-Lutheran practices that are being questioned. Ref. above post: who does the saving?

  3. In my last comment on the video (I’ll still read along), I will repost what I did on Pr. Wilken’s Facebook link. It’s as clear as I am able to make things so here goes:

As the author of the video I would like to clarify a couple of things. This was a response to Pr. Chuck Mueller, Jr’s video called “THAT Church” hence the non-standard capitalization in my title. For that reason, all the clips related to “THAT” are things in the Synod I associate with Pr. Mueller’s positions. The “This” clips are things that exist in the Synod which I feel are the mirror images.

As you may have gleaned, I fall on the “This” side of things, thus when the lyrics endorse “This” I use the “This” images. As for the notion that this is not the Pr. Harrison’s formula for unity, I don’t believe that Pr. Harrison called for all opinions to be stifled. From my vantage point I currently see at least two very distinct camps in the Synod. I believe that pointing out that those two sides exist is a step in unifying them. I mean if you don’t believe there are two sides then we must already have unity so the Convention should be just like summer camp. Also, remember again that this was in response to Pr. Mueller who cast his support for Dr. Kieschnick. My response was to show my support for Pr. Harrison. As an aside, I probably wouldn’t have thought of this if Pr. Mueller had entitled his video “THIS Church.”

For those interested here is the This/THAT breakdown:
Grace Evangelical Lutheran (Tulsa) / The Alley
Grace Evangelical Lutheran (Tulsa) / Jefferson Hills

Pr. Jonathan Fisk / Pr. Ben Griffin
    BJS / JF
Higher Things 2009 / LCMS Youth Gathering 2007
    Higher Things 2009

Issues, Etc. / KFUO – AM
Word and Sacrament / LCMS Org Structure
    TLSB / Constitution and Bylaws
    The Essential Lutheran Library (CPH)

    Pr. Harrison / Dr. Kieschnick
    It’s Time / BRTFSSG Report
    Pr. Harrison / Dr. Kieschnick
    Pr. Harrison

I could see how some might take offense to:
Word and Sacrament / LCMS Org Structure
    TLSB / Constitution and Bylaws
but it is my commentary on the two approaches being taken to address the problems in the Synod and does not insinuate that “THAT” holds structure above Word and Sacraments in matters of faith.

This 1 minute video that took me 90 minutes to make has caused more controversy than I ever expected, but I do not mean to be sacrilegious or to question anyones faith. I will not apologize for my opinions and I will NOT say, “I apologize to anyone I have offended.” My Yes is my Yes and my No is my No.

I’m sure I’ve sinned all over the place in this matter.
    Kyrie Eleison,
    Brian Yamabe

Brian-your work is to be commended. If we are to apologize every time we have an opinion then we won’t get anything done. A vote is also an opinion and I would pray that no one apologizes for their votes at the Convention.

  5. Brian,

You have not sinned. The “open-minded” and “tolerant” left has always been close-minded toward and intolerant of anything that does not fit their all love all the time approach to life and church.

  6. Oh, and one more thing, you can always tell when liberals are losing – they squeal. Stay the course folks. Good-hearted fun satire like Brian’s “this and that” is great and it is working.

I thought this video was great. Too funny!

One of the things I liked best about it, though, in all seriousness, is that it had a really nice picture of Dr. Kieschnick in it. I think that it is commendable that in this video that advocates for a change in leadership (a goal with which I agree) there is nevertheless respect shown to the sitting president, and he is recognized for doing something good and important, not mocked.

    Great job, Brian!

    > In that regard, I’d much rather get with “this” (IE) than “that” (“The Essence”). You?

Again, a false disjunction. You are completely wrong to make them mutually exclusive, other than any songs that have false doctrine. If you know some, please write the station openly. A quick flash of a graphic that first and foremost simply identifies “KFUO” is an immature continuance of a grievance against the BCS and what they did to Issues Etc. It hurts the station and does nothing to address the real issues.

    > Who said there was a problem with Rev. Kieschnick on the park bench with the lady and young boy?

If there’s not a problem, why would that image be illustrative of which side not to vote for?
