Great Stuff Found on the Web — A Decade of Mercy: 2000 – 2010

I found this posted by several facebook users:

Thanks to the generous support of mercy-minded donors and partners, LCMS World Relief and Human Care has reached out with Christ’s love in unprecedented ways to hurting people with body and soul needs worldwide. This video documents the accomplishments and challenges of Synod’s mercy work over the last decade.

About Norm Fisher

Norm was raised in the UCC in Connecticut, and like many fell away from the church after high school. With this background he saw it primarily as a service organization. On the miracle of his first child he came back to the church. On moving to Texas a few years later he found a home in Lutheranism when he was invited to a confessional church a half-hour away by our new neighbors.

He is one of those people who found a like mind in computers while in Middle School and has been programming ever since. He's responsible for many websites, including the Book of Concord,, and several other sites.

He has served the church in various positions, including financial secretary, sunday school teacher, elder, PTF board member, and choir member.

More of his work can be found at

  1. “Mercy” is what will disappear with the “restructuring” if we are so foolish!

  2. I beginning to see “Mercy” being the buzzword of the Ultra-confessionals as “Mission” is the buzzword of the confessionals.

    Dear TLC:

I casn’t say that I’ve seen MERCY thrown around like a buzz word that much, but your point is worth considering, We certainly need to avoid developing our own brand of “Bumper-Sticker Theology.” That said, however, Mercy, as in “Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy” is directly attributable to scripture, I tnink. I’ll bet there are some red letter scripture references in the hymnal beside the Kyrie (sp?) ( I don’t have a hymnal handy, so I can’t check them). I’m not sure where I’d find the words mission or missional in the scriptures… I’m not overlooking the “Grear Commssion”, I’m just sayin’…

I was referring to the whole panorama of World Relief & Human Care in the term of the documentary. It will disappear as our missionaries (genuine, called) disappeared in the early days of this administration. The fountain of money will be “needed” at the IC.

When people wake up to that, the money will disappear also, (unless churches are taxed per capita.)

    I don’t use bumper stickers.

  5. David,
    It’s three weeks to Convention.
At this point, GK is wearing a “confessional” cloak as he has been doing for several months before every convention. It’s as genuine as the smoke in those PoliticsFirst letters.

It will go into mothballs fast enough if he wins again! 🙁
