“Goin’ Back to Houston” (by Pr. Charles Henrickson)

We had our circuit forum yesterday. I get to spend a week down in Habitat for Humidity again next July.

GOIN’ BACK TO HOUSTON
Tune: “Houston” Original

Well, our forum time came around
Everybody put me down
Put a check beside my name
I got elected once again
Goin’ back to Houston, Houston, Houston

I got a notion which way I’ll choose
All these ribbons give me the blues
See our dollars go up in flames
Not a fan of all their games
Goin’ back to Houston, Houston, Houston

We’ve been beaten since 2001
Been a while since the Lutherans won
But that’s about to end
It’s time to start a brand new trend
Goin’ back to Houston, Houston, Houston

We’ve got a problem atop the IC
That’s the way it seems to me
Let’s just restructure that
Roll out the “Welcome Matt”
Goin’ back to Houston, Houston, Houston

Well, I’m tired of goin’ down
To that hot humid Texas town
But there’s one guy who likes it there
Let’s pay for a one-way fare
Goin’ back to Houston, Houston, Houston

  1. Habitat for Humidity is right. In Fredericksburg TX they sell t-shirts that read, “Life is too short to live in Houston.” Several of my parishioners at holy cross lived in Houston for a while. They concur with the t-shirt.

  2. We managed to get our Pastor elected at our circuit forum yesterday. Unfortunately, this meant I was automatically disqualified from consideration as a lay delegate (can not have Pastor and Lay delegates from the same congregation.) I just could not express my disappointment at being deprived of Houston in July – kinda like a free trip to purgatory lost. Oh well, just have to send our confessional Pastor with yet another “welcome Matt.” Gotta get me one of those for our church narthex. Have fun – bring back a confessional Synodical president; It’s Time for the prodigal denomination to return to the Lord, Our Father.

  3. How come the same pastor who went to the synod convention in ’07 gets to go to the synod convention in ’10. Nothing against pastors who do. But what of the other pastors in the circuit? Or do they simply do not want to go? Just curious.

There’s no rule on this one way or the other. From my observation, most pastors are willing to go; some do not want to go. But what counts is who the circuit forum voters want to go. Same with the lay delegate.
