Visiting the First BJS Chapter while in Kansas City for the Augustana Ministerium Conference, by Pr. Rossow

Next week I will be in Kansas City for the Augustana Ministerium conference and while there will drive down the road for an evening of Confessions study with the very first BJS chapter.

Within a few days after we went on line last June I heard from Pastor Ted Cook in Pittsburg Kansas that he was interested in starting a BJS chapter. We sent him a start up kit and ever since they have had a small but faithful group gathering regularly around the Lutheran Confessions. They also frequently take issues or blog posts off the BJS site and use those as the basis of their study in order to fine tune their understanding of what it means to be a confessional Lutheran.

If you are in the Pittsburg, Kansas area you are welcome to the gathering. We will be having brats and beer at Pastor Cook’s home on Tuesday night at 6 PM. For directions please e-mail me.

I am also looking forward to spending some time with the members of the Augustana Ministerium at their annual meeting, May 11-13. The Ministerium is an excellent group that regularly posts on the BJS website. It is also a group and cause that our congregation has supported with much generosity. As I see it, among other things, the Augustana Ministerium  serves  conservative/confessional Lutherans by reminding us of the significant role God has asked pastors to fill in His church. It is easy for conservative LCMS Lutherans to overstress the authority of politics, conventions, by-laws, voters assemblies and the like and overlook the Biblical truth that God has placed the teaching authority in the church in the hands of His under-shepherds, the pastors. Pastors do not rule the church, but they do handle the Word of God and His other mysteries wherein we find the only authority by which the church is ruled.

I am sure it is  not too late to sign up for the conference. You can see more detail about it here. It is also available on our calendar here.

Next week will be wonderful. BJS will have a presence at the Augustana Ministerium’s annual conference where we will be able to nurture our mutual concern for confessional Lutheranism and we will get to meet the very first chapter members of the Brothers of John the Steadfast while drinking beer and eating brats in Kansas.
