Missouri District Convention Preview, May 31 and June 2 (by Pr. Charles Henrickson) — 6 Comments

  1. This is excellent Charlie. I wish we had been so organized in the NID.

    TR

  2. I am not in the Missouri district, so I will leave my comment here. I would like to suggest that Resolution 2-1 “…Women in the Church” somehow be amended to include a thorough review and clarification of the 2004-2005 documents on the service of women in congregational offices.

  3. In regard to Resolution 2-01, on “Women in the Church,” if you compare the resolution the floor committee is submitting (p. 56) vs. the original overture that the circuit forum submitted (pp. 57-58), you’ll notice that they changed the Whereases a bit and took out the key Resolved, i.e., to rescind 2004 Res. 3-08A.

That floor committee (#2) did that sort of thing with a number of the overtures that were submitted, either softening them or declining them.

  4. Charles,

It appears, if I am reading correctly, that the resolutions with any meat are simple being “declined by committee.” Once again a small upper portion of the church denies the rights of a whole to be heard!!! When will we ever learn?

  5. It appears, if I am reading correctly, that the resolutions with any meat are simple being “declined by committee.”

That’s how I see it, too, Roger, for many (not all) of the substantive overtures–they’ve either been “neutered” or declined. That was *not* how it was three years ago, with the floor committee appointed by our previous DP. *That* committee gave us *strong* resolutions, and we passed them, overwhelmingly!
