Reading through the Book of Concord, week of Jan 12th

For those of you who have said that you want to start the Online Reading Group when we start at the beginning of the Book of Concord — START READING THIS WEEK! We are in week 3, so we are starting near the beginning.

One of the goals of the Brothers of John the Steadfast is the creation of reading groups whose intention is to get with a Pastor and read through the Book of Concord. For those people who do not have access to a reading group, it occurred to us that we might try creating an “online reading group” right here on the BJS site.

Pastors reading this — please take the time to reply to any questions brought up on this list, or even comment yourselves on what this section of the BOC means to you.

Each Sunday we will post the readings for the week, broken down into daily readings. Read through the passages yourselves, either using your copy of the Concordia or using the BookofConcord.org website.

For Jan 12th through Jan 16th we are in week 3 in 2009, so according to the 2nd edition of Concordia, reading about the Ten Commandments in the Large Catechism.

NOTE: The files you are reading were scanned from a print copy of the Book of Concord and lots of modifications have been made. Unfortunately that means that sometimes a character was scanned incorrectly. If during your reading you note a typo, PLEASE bring it to our attention by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and click on the link to report typos or formatting errors. Last week it was brought to our attention that a H was read as In .. we have fixed that.

Monday Large Catechism, I, 30-48.

Tuesday LC I, 49-60.

Wednesday LC, I, 61-74.

Thursday LC, I, 75-87.

Friday LC, I, 88-102.

Write any questions or comments on the readings for the week below. Please try to keep discussion limited to the readings for this week or topics that grow out of them. Remember, no question is a stupid question, and insights you see clearly may not be evident to others, so write about anything you want regarding these readings!

  • About Norm Fisher

Norm was raised in the UCC in Connecticut, and like many fell away from the church after high school. With this background he saw it primarily as a service organization. On the miracle of his first child he came back to the church. On moving to Texas a few years later he found a home in Lutheranism when he was invited to a confessional church a half-hour away by our new neighbors.

He is one of those people who found a like mind in computers while in Middle School and has been programming ever since. He's responsible for many websites, including the Book of Concord, LCMSsermons.com, and several other sites.

He has served the church in various positions, including financial secretary, sunday school teacher, elder, PTF board member, and choir member.

More of his work can be found at KNFA.net.

    1. I’m delighted to say that, at least so far, the size of the readings is manageable. Between that and having no weekend readings (which potentially gives me the time to catch up), I should be able to complete the Book of Concord for the first time this year.
