  1. I “moved in from the Coast” and sad to say, I found the opposite and am searching for a Confessional/liturgical parish in the “fly over district.”

  2. I like the little guys in the bottom right corners (little Luther’s?) — well, we know what has happened to the LCMS in one generation . . . we have decided that it is our Church rather than the Lord’s Church *sigh*.

  3. I have been a member of wels for about ten years now and often go back east visiting grandchildren and wels churches on the way.
So far I have not run into any women serving communion at the Alter.

I also have not run into paid for by the government wels pastors in the military.

Nor Wels congregation sponsoring scout troops who’s unifying oath declaires any god will do ya .

  4. Come to think of it I have never seen any wels pastor taking part in a joint worship service with those who were not either wels or els.

  5. I think this cartoon pays a compliment to the WELS exactly because of the reasons stated by Robert in his comment. The characters in this cartoon are disapointed with what some congregations in the LCMS allow, and decide that a WELS congregation is a better alternative for worship.

And of course for many in the LCMS the WELS and ELS are very highly regarded, and many long for the days when the LCMS and WELS where in fellowship with each other.

  6. In this post-Synodical Conference era, and the sadness from lack of unity and the erosion of solid doctrine, this does pay a compliment to the Wisconsin Evangelical Synod (WELS) and the ELS by extension. But this also seems to be a wake-up call to Missouri: Don’t become another ELCA. You are not an ugly duckling of American Evangelicals. Open your Bible. Crack the cover and read CONCORDIA: The Lutheran Confessions, and learn you are beautiful as God intended you: Cross–centered, and Law & Gospel focused.

Don’t pawn the timeless treasure in your hymnal for the short-lived excitement being projected on your large movie screens. You’ve seen Higgins Road, Chicago drift away. Are you so sure you want to be blown by every wind of doctrine (teaching) as well? Hold fast to the anchor! Do we seek to please God or mankind?
