BJS Conference 2013 Highlights — Day One

February 16th, 2013 9 comments

The Conference is underway and day one is complete.  Yesterday we gathered to hear Pr. Jonathan Fisk speak and discuss the crisis we have in catechizing our young ones (in homes, churches, and schools).  He skillfully addressed the problems and honestly expressed his own ongoing struggle to find a solution with regards to how we pass down the faith from generation to generation (especially this new generation which is being entertained to death).  Of particular note, Pr. Fisk discussed the phrase “I’ve been a Lutheran all my life, but…” which is how Lutherans confess non-Lutheran teachings and criticize Lutheran doctrine   More…

What the picture doesn’t show (fatherhood and a Synodical President)

February 16th, 2011 15 comments

Since BJS is dedicated to helping restore fatherhood, I thought I would share a moment from the BJS Conference this past weekend.  While attending the first lecture on Witness, my wife and children accompanied me into the sanctuary of Bethany in Naperville (our family vacation time was originally around Symposia week, but chicken pox stopped that from happening, so BJS provided a second chance). The picture in this post is of President Harrison interacting with my oldest daughter, who was reading “The Magician’s Nephew” by C.S. Lewis and also spending time being artistic with the BJS place mats from the   More…

Divine Service at the 2011 BJS Conference

One of the questions going around at the Conference this past weekend was …. what does Pastor Fisk look like in real life? Does he have the Samurai Swords behind him, does he jump around as he goes from phrase to phrase, is he really that hyper? So .. for those who weren’t able to make the conference, I thought that I’d get a quick clip up showing Pastor Fisk in person. For more about him, see WorldView Everlasting Sorry for the poor quality audio; we may be able to generate videos with better audio in a few days/weeks.

Reconciliation with Tillie the Comfort Dog, by Pastor Rossow

February 12th, 2011 17 comments

As some of you know from past blog posts, also here and here, I have been critical of Lutheran Church Charities Installation of their Comfort Dogs as “Ministers of the Gospel”. Since we had the CEO of Lutheran Church Charities at our conference today to speak to us about Mercy, the second of President Harrison’s emphases for the church, I thought it would be a good chance for me to reconcile with Tillie the Comfort Dog. Below there is a photo giving the right hand of fellowship to Tillie. Of course, right after that I couldn’t help but de-install her,   More…

A new Lutheran fantasy novel for youth and adults is being unveiled at the BJS conference this weekend. Rev.
