“Confessing the Faith” in Bloomington, April 21-23 (by Pr. Charles Henrickson)

“Confessing the Faith: In Light of the Lutheran Confessions” will be the theme for what looks to be an outstanding conference in Bloomington, Minnesota, Wednesday-Friday, April 21-23. Two sessions by Matt Harrison, and a speaker from Sweden! What more could you want? But wait, there’s more! Take a look at the full line-up of topics and speakers:

The Lutheran Confessions – the Model for Christian Confessing, Rev. Dr. Holger Sonntag
The Theology of Ablaze – Confession or Confusion, Rev. Glenn Huebel
Critical Events, Altar Calls, Conversion Experiences, and Other Ways to Avoid a Lifetime Commitment to Jesus and His Word, Rev. Rolf Preus
Confessing the Faith in an anti-Christian Culture, Rev. Fredrik Sidenvall (from Sweden!)
Confessing the Faith – the Christian Vocation, Dr. Gene E. Veith, Jr.
At Home in the House of My Fathers (Part One), Rev. Matthew Harrison
At Home in the House of My Fathers (Part Two), Rev. Matthew Harrison
Confessing the Faith in a Sea of Baptists, Rev. Rodney Rosenbladt
The Confessing Luther, Rev. Dr. K. Detlev Schulz

The Thursday evening banquet speaker will be Rev. Dr. David Scaer. At that banquet, awards for “Confessional Lutheran of the Year,” clergyman and layperson, will be given out. Last year’s winners were BJS’s own Todd Wilken and Mollie Hemingway. On Wednesday evening there will be a reception at the home of BJS’s Klemet Preus.

The confererence is called “A Congress on the Lutheran Confessions,” but don’t let the word “Congress” turn you off. What you get out of this Congress will actually be worth the money! Having attended a number of these, I can tell you it’s a great time. The event is co-sponsored by two excellent organizations, the Association of Confessional Lutherans and the Luther Academy.

For more information, go to the Association of Confessional Lutherans website, theacl.org, and from there you can find the Congress agenda, the Congress registration form, and details on discounted lodging at the Ramada Mall of America (please reserve by March 31).

See you in Minnesota!

What a great lineup of speakers and topics that will be taught! Lutherans need to be made aware of the errors of the American fundamentalist semi-Pelagian teaching that is rampant all over our country.

One Question: I can’t make it to MN – much less all over the country to the various (GREAT) conferences going on… So, i wonder, how much would need to be raised to have it simulcast on PCR (or at least have .mp3 files available somewhere for d/l)?

    Rev. M. Dent :
One Question: I can’t make it to MN – much less all over the country to the various (GREAT) conferences going on… So, i wonder, how much would need to be raised to have it simulcast on PCR (or at least have .mp3 files available somewhere for d/l)?

CDs of past conferences are made available through the website. I can’t speak for the ACL, but…I think the only way it’s likely that the content would end up simulcast or downloadable is if someone endowed the congress. As has been seen with the Ft. Wayne symposia, when audio is made available for free there is a great danger that the audience may not find all the speakers as compelling as the organizer does, and attendance will sink. While Ft. Wayne can simply move a smaller crowd back to a smaller hall, a conference at a hotel is in deep trouble if they don’t book enough rooms (i.e., if not enough rooms are booked, fees for the meeting area, etc., are usually higher).

The CDs cost $40 per year ($4/CD) when ordered as a set. Perhaps if a couple dozen of you told the ACL that you would like to underwrite their potential audience loss/CD loss, they’d look into simulcasting or making the files available for download. (No promise; again, I can’t speak for them; this is just an idea.) Head to their website and use their contact form and let them know of your interest.

I am psyched! This will be a good time indeed. For those of you who can make it, I will see you there.
