Registration Now Open for the BJS Conference this February – Todd, Mollie and Klemet – “The Fired and the Staff”
The conference is over and everyone is recharged after it; here are the presentations given at the conference:

Since we have three top notch speakers but do not have a central theme for this year’s conference I asked the Steering Committee to brainstorm clever titles. Leave it to the wit of Charlie Henrickson to come up with a real knee-slapper: “Todd, Mollie and Klemet: The Fired and the Staff.”
This is a play on Klemet’s very successful book published by CPH titled “The Fire and the Staff.” Well, with a little twist one ends up with the fired (referring to Todd’s history at KFUO) and the staff (referencing Mollie & Klemet as the two BJS “staff” bloggers.)
Todd Wilken, the popular and profound host of Issues, Etc, will be keeping us in touch with the primary arena of BJS fund-raising – new Lutheran media. Klemet will be insightful and entertaining as usual. (We talked about his theme weeks ago and must admit I have forgotten what we discussed and since he is teaching over in the Philippines for the Luther Academy and has limited access to e-mail, we will announce his theme in a few weeks.)
We are most enthused about having Mollie Ziegler Hemingway speak to the conference. As far as I know this is the first opportunity for folks to hear from this hero of new Lutheran media. Mollie will be sharing with us some insight and background on her life as a writer and supporter of the confessional cause.
The conference will feature
- Todd, Mollie and Klemet – “The Fired and the Staff”
- Historic chanted liturgies
- Bethany Naperville’s legendary hospitality
- No Pietists Allowed Parties
- Friday night “banquet” (if you can call pizza a banquet entree)
- Pastor Rossow’s Manly Breakfast
- Saturday lunch (all meals are included in the registration fee)
The conference will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Naperville, Illinois (Chicago suburbs) begin with a welcome reception at 4:00 PM on Friday, February 12 and conclude on Saturday with lunch. The cost has been held at the same price as last year: $40 for members, $50 for non-members with a special $60 rate that includes registration and one year of membership dues. There is also a $25 student rate.

Glad registration is open. Our group will be returning, and maybe growing. Do you have any hotel info like we had last year?

Pastor, you really undersell the pizza thing. It WAS a banquet: three kinds of pizza, all loaded with protein. And the salads rocked!
We really do have great volunteers, teachers, and office staff at Bethany. I am so proud of our congregation everytime we host events. The DOXOLOGY folks are still talking about the meals our folks put on.
I don’t mean to brag – but do want the brothers to know that the BJS conferences are not your typical affair. Nothing woppy about ‘em. Think “Higher Things” for adults: Real Worship, Real Bible Study, and Real Fun.
Given the blast everyone had last time, I suspect we’ll have double the attendance. So make plans early everyone: you want to be in the front of the line for this!

Will there be a brochure, bulletin insert wording, etc. forthcoming to help us promote the conference in our local congregations as there was for the previous conference?
Illinois in February? I came from that latitude.

Not too far from us. Will make attempt with my better half. Does anyone have a hotel list yet? Or any ideas on a hotel? It’s been a decade or two since I’ve been in that neck of the woods.

Has any thought been given to holding some of these in different sections of the country. My wife and I are members of the diaspora in Virginia. We’ll be going to the Symposium at Ft Wayne in January and can’t swing getting to Chicago so soon thereafter — though we’d love to. If there were a location within driving distance, we’d consider it.

Yes, it is open to members, non-members, wives, friends, etc.
Actually, we will be rolling out our new Sisters of Katie Luther at the conference and may even have an opportunity for the ladies to get together for an hour or so as a group.
