Sign Your Name & Join Our Effort to Encourage DP’s to Cease Promotion of Un-Lutheran Materials Such as the Parish Paper, by Pr. Rossow

September 28th, 2009 Post by

If you are concerned about District Presidents promoting non-Lutheran resources to the pastors and laity under their supervision then we ask you to sign your name below in the comments section. The recent publication of the current edition of the Parish Paper in the North Wisconsin District Newsletter has sparked this concern. Confessional pastors and laymen have always been concerned about this but a new low was reached when the recent edition of this non-Lutheran publication (Parish Paper) used its two pages to extol women pastors. Unwittingly the North Wisconsin District included this edition, as is its normal practice, in its October 2009 newsletter. The NWD President apologized for this error and we commend him for that. We believe that it is time to move beyond apologies and ask our District Presidents to stop promoting this material in their districts.

Here is what we will send to the North Wisconsin District President, President Kieschnick and the Council of Presidents.

The recent publication of a two page endorsement of the heretical practice of women’s ordination in the North Wisconsin District Newsletter as a part of of their regular subscription to the Parish Paper has drawn attention to how careless the supervision of doctrine has become in many of the  districts of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

Supervision of doctrine is the highest duty of a district president. It has become the practice in many districts to promote parish resources and practices that are contrary to the teachings of Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.

The Brothers of John the Steadfast and the undersigned readers of our website ask the District Presidents, for the sake of the purity of the Gospel amongst us, to stop promoting non-Lutheran materials in the districts of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

The pastors,  theologians and publishing house of our own synod are capable of producing materials and programs for the edifying of the local parish. Just recently we have witnessed a wonderful  increase in these programs and materials. For instance, we recommend  that you promote such things  as the Doxology Program, Issues, Etc. radio program, the Lutheran spirituality Bible studies by theologians such as  Kleinig, Pless and others, and the incredible string of recent publications for personal piety by CPH such as The Treasury of Daily Prayer, The Readers Edition of the Book of Concord, and most recently the Lutheran Study Bible. There is no lack of confessional Lutheran material for you to promote in your district newsletters, convention addresses and pastoral letters.

The Parish Paper has been and is currently promoted by many districts and yet its editors are non-Lutheran. They do not seek to reach Lutheran Christians with Lutheran presuppositions. Theologically  they are more at ease with the  liberal theology of the United Methodist Church and other non-Lutherans. But the parish paper is only one example. We hope you will see this as an opportunity to promote a revival of Lutheran spirituality for Lutherans by ceasing the publication and promotion of non-Lutheran materials and make an intentional effort to promote what is genuinely Scriptural and Lutheran.

If you wish to join us in this request simply type your name into the comment box below. You can also include your church home if you wish and a 50 word or less comment.
