What is Accomplished with the Money Coming to Synod and the Districts? 7/22/08

(from the Texas Confessional Lutherans) Most of you, if not all of you, will be shocked how the offering dollar is used! The following information has been relayed to me from the Purple Palace in St. Louis.

FROM THE CONTRIBUTED DOLLAR:

  • 88.7 cents remain in the congregation for mission and ministry.
  • 9.3  cents are passed by the congregation to the district for regional mission and ministry.
  • 1.6 cents passes through the district to the Synod for national and international mission and ministry.
  • 0.6 cents is allocated by Synod in support of LCMS World Mission.

Most on this list to be questioned is your district’s use of almost 10% of each dollar for thier use. We have much too much administration in our districts (and synod). In the Lone Star State many of us  question the need for some of the costly programs employed by our Texas District.

What is shocking and tragic is the fact that LESS THAN A HALF PENNY, LESS THAN 2/5 OF A PENNY IS USED BY SYNOD IN THE SUPPORT OF WORLD MISSIONS!

Isn’t that pathetic? You can’t really blame synod since it receives only 1.6 cents from the districts! I remember a number of years ago synod received about a nickel from the districts for World Missions. I’m afraid synod will get less and less from the congregational dollar as it makes its way through the congregation and district! This is certainly a lamentable situation! This is another indication that we are no longer in our grandfather’s church!
