No doubt we will use some of this in the general prayer.
Beyond that, I hope we leave it to “American civil religion”.
Just for clarification, the LCMS’s LetUsPray resource is different from the slogan “It’s OK to Pray”(TM), related to syncretic prayer services.

Yes, I know. Our Pastors have told me that they use at least some of the weekly petitions sent out, adapted to the local situation [e.g., rain in Texas, vs no more rain for Kevin Vogts].
I was a little bummed out yesterday when Pastor said it’d be part of the service that day, especially seeing as it is when we wrap up our own 100th anniversary activities.
When/why did it become some kind of pseudo feast day? I highly doubt in another ten years it will be prayed about or even mentioned. I’m not insensitive to the tragedy, but it ultimately just comes off a little silly to me.
I usually take these events (ones that people are obviously thinking about) as lead-ins. It can be an election, a holiday, a weather event or national tragedy. It’s not the focus. It’s the “hook.” Instead of an “object” lesson…it’s an “event” lesson…
In 1951, did the Missouri Synod provide Worship Resources for the 10th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor?
