Issues, Etc. Day One

July 1st, 2008 Post by Pastor Tim Rossow

Mollie here. Apparently the live station for listening to Issues, Etc. was flooded yesterday and some people couldn’t get on. My husband, my mother and I all got on but my dad and various friends here in DC, Michigan and Missouri had trouble.

The first hour dealt mostly with just an acknowledgment of what had happened over the last 3 1/2 months. It was great to hear Todd and Jeff talk about the pain they endured and joy they experienced while going through everything. It was also fun to hear some folks call in from around the country. Issues, Etc. is remarkable in its ability to capture a huge proportion of males in its listening audience. A recent Pew Poll showed a large gender gap between men and women with regard to their spiritual activities. That Issues, Etc. appeals to so many men is a wonderful gift from God.

Anyway, the second hour made me so happy I wanted to cry. I hadn’t realized just how much I missed Issues, Etc. until I heard it again. First, Todd interviewed John C. Green from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. They discussed some of the results from that large landmark study on religion that just came out. Then Todd interviewed Dr. Carl C. Fickenscher II of Concordia Theological Seminary speaking about the Gospel.

Thank you to Todd, Jeff and everyone else who put so much work into getting my “seminary for laymen” back on the air.

Did any of you get to listen? Will you be Issues, Etc. is BACK!

What does it mean that I’m listening right now to yesterday’s show? Again. Seriously, I had no idea how hard this withdrawal had been.

I knew how much I missed it those first couple of weeks, but time kind of dulled the missing. Now that it’s back, I remember again why I was so upset when it went away.

My house has missed it, too. I always worked on cleaning or projects while I listened. I got my office almost cleaned today.

When do we get to see another earth-shaking article from Mollie in the Wall Street Journal?
I’m not finding anything with a search on the WSJ website except a response by some guy named Kieschnick. Any bones coming our way to get our mouths watering?

Apparently all 64 Issues.Etc listeners attempted to logon at the same time and crashed the Live365 servers limiting access. Actually, the servers can handle a bit more than 64 hits, but I didn’t mean to disparage a certain executive director of communications. Anyways, I got on, they’re back and life is good again. Glory be to God.

I got it to work today, though I was slightly puzzled by Real Network’s default sheep video!

Well, I sure want to hear the story of the days between the cancellation and the resurrection, and the simultaneous births of Pirate Christian Radio and BJS.
I can’t imagine that a similar venture has been thought of, and then manufactured, in history.
I’d really like to hear what the relevant parties have to say about process of turning the darkness of the cancellation into the brightness of these new 3 entities with which we are blessed.
Don’t make me wait for the movie!
