Slowness of the Steadfast Lutherans site today

June 29th, 2010 Post by

Sorry for the delays encountered when attempting to read the Steadfast Lutherans site today.

I am continuing to work with my webhosting provider to attempt to figure out what is going on and resolve the issues.

I have created a second site, http://steadfastlutherans2.org, that doesn’t have any slowdowns; if you continue to encounter delayed pages on the main site, clicking over to the other site will let you read the content without delays.

Note that the RSS feeds and other associated files will remain the same.

Note also that this is a new domain .. while a spot check around the web show that it has already reached several corners of the net, it may not yet be available in your area.

Thanks for the info, Norm. I was wondering what was going on with the slowness.

It has the ‘feel’ of a classic Denial of Service attack. Not accusin’ anybody though…. ;)

    James,
That’s kind of what I thought too. It’s amazing, how fast thoughts can fly, when you know, your view is not popular, current, nor accepted. We know the closer we hit the Lord’s mark, the more thwarted we may be. I’ll conceed, it is odd, but Norm is stellar, he’ll find & fix.

    Dear Norm,

    Thanks for fixing the web-site.

Thanks again for all your superb work at this site. You are a real genius in the website field. Watching this website develop over the last couple of years has made me realize that web-mastering requires a host of talents: computer programming, graphic design, administrative attention to details, and a thorough knowledge of the web and its resources. Besides all that, you are always available and quick to respond. You have been a great blessing to our church and those who visit this site!

Yours in Christ, Martin R. Noland

I second what Dr. Noland said!

I noticed that my RSS reader is still pointing to http://steadfastlutherans.org If I hadn’t seen the Twitter posting I wouldn’t know about this other web address. Kind of funny that this occured shortly before the LCMS Convention.

Just a comment — RSS readers should point to: http://feeds.feedburner.com/BJS

This will always work. You must be an early reader who added BJS to your feed stream before I changed it to use feedburner .. it’s much more efficient for both your reader as well as the BJS site.

And who says old Lutherans aren’t technologically gifted?

Great job on the second site. Earlier today, it just hung but gave no error message. The site looks great as well.

The timing does seem odd given the recent uptick in activity and the convention quickly approaching. I don’t recall anything like this happening before. I’m hoping the host servers were just having difficulty handling a sudden rise in activity or something similar, but I do look forward to hearing what caused the problem once it is determined.

Norm, being in the I/T field and running several sites myself, I also applaude your efforts and can appreciate what it takes to do this on a day to day basis. Kudos!
