Student Emergency Fund at Concordia Theological Seminary – Fort Wayne

May 5th, 2010 Post by

This in from a dedicated BJS reader:

I just spoke to CTSFW, and they gave me the instructions for helping out the uncalled pastoral candidates and their families. The check is to be made out to, “Concordia Theological Seminary.” On the memo line, please write, “Student Emergency Fund.” The donations are mailed to:

Concordia Theological Seminary
6600 N. Clinton St.
Fort Wayne, IN 46825

I posted this as a comment on the original post, but we at BJS thought it better to make a post to bring it to the widest possible attention.

From Scott Diekmann’s comment on the same post:

If you go to, at the bottom of the page is a link to “The LCMS Joint Seminary Fund.” When you click on “Read More,” it takes you to a letter by Rev. Glen Thomas, the Executive Director of the LCMS Board for Pastoral Education. There is a link in his letter to this pdf document. The pdf document lists the names of called candidates for pastor and deaconess for both seminaries. It also lists the names of the nine candidates from CSL who are in the “call pending” category, i.e. they didn’t receive a call. …

So to donate to the Joint Seminary Fund, click here, or follow the above instructions to donate to CTSFW to help support uncalled Pastors.

I would think twice before donating to the Joint Seminary Fund simply because the original letter and original PDF both ignored the existence of the candidates who didn’t receive calls. It wasn’t until today, after a number of calls and emails, that they acknowledged that there were candidates who didn’t receive calls and added them to the list and revised the posted letter. I’d suggest going through the seminaries directly.

Jane, In the current letter there is still no mention of the pastoral or deaconess candidates who did not receive calls. The only change in the letter was in the listed number of pastoral candidates who received calls – it was changed from, I believe 190, to 150.

The original pdf, at least the one I saw, did list the St. Louis candidates who did not receive a call, but omitted the Fort Wayne candidates who didn’t receive a call. They are now all listed correctly.

They forgot one more seminarian. At his request, he asked me not to reveal his name. Contact me off-list at madtheo at carolrutz dottt com if you desire to help him.
