The Gospel Notes for the First Sunday after Christmas of the Historic One-Year Lectionary is now available. You may download the Color PDF, the Black and White PDF, the Bi-Fold Color PDF, the Bi-Fold Black and White PDF, the Legal Half-Page PDF, or the Legal Black and White PDF.

The bi-fold version is a “booklet form” that folds and inserts nicely inside a standard bulletin. The standard version can be printed double-sided on a 8 1/2 x 11″ sheet, and possibly folded as well for distribution through bulletins, or put on the narthex table for distribution.

The First Sunday after Christmas

Collect of the Day:
O God, our Maker and Redeemer, You wonderfully created us and in the incarnation of Your Son yet more wondrously restored our human nature. Grant that we may ever be alive in Him who made Himself to be like us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Introit:
Psalm 93:1, 3–4 (antiphon: Psalm 93:5, 2) — The Kingdom of the Lord is established

Psalm:
Psalm 89:1–8 (antiphon: v. 8) — Mighty and Faithful is the Lord

Old Testament Reading:
Isaiah 11:1–5 — The Shoot from Jesse’s stump

Gradual:
Psalm 45:2a, 1b — Grace pours from the lips of the Lord

Epistle:
Galatians 4:1–7 — In the fullness of time, God sent forth His Son

Verse:
Psalm 93:1 — The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.

Author and Date:
Luke the Evangelist around AD 55–60. This is the chronicle of the Presentation of Our Lord, occurring forty days after His birth, as was the custom of the Jews. This narrative is found only in Luke’s Gospel account.
