News came out today from the LCMS administration that the Rev. Dr. Robert Kuhn resigned as the Sixth Vice President (East-Southeast Region) of the LCMS for health reasons. Please include him in your prayers. He has served the Synod very faithfully over the years, including as the 11th President of the Synod. Here is a biography of Dr. Kuhn.
In his place President Harrison appointed a replacement that is also exciting news. The Reporter article on this can be found here. Rev. Christopher Esget is now the 6th Vice President of the LCMS and the Regional Vice President for the East-Southeast Region of the LCMS (consisting of the following Districts: Southern; Flordia-Georgia; Southeastern; Ohio; Eastern; Atlantic; New Jersey; New England). The appointment was made by President Harrison following Synod Bylaws. I would also say that this appointment follows the will of the Synod in Convention that elected Dr. Kuhn as a known confessional leader (Regional Vice Presidents, although nominated by their region are elected by the whole convention). Rev. Esget is also known for his confessional theology and is a staunch confessor of the faith. Here is his information from his congregation (and school’s) website. He is an ardent defender of Confessional Doctrine and the liturgy. He has in recent years also become a very vocal leader in the pro-life movement of the LCMS. More than all of this, Rev. Esget is a parish pastor and also a pastor over a K-8 parochial school (a classical one!) – two of the most fundamental things about the LCMS. All of this makes for a very good appointment to the Praesidium of the LCMS.
Congratulations are in order to Rev. Esget, and prayers as well as he assumes these duties in mid term as we approach the 2016 convention.
