Welcome to the NEW Brothers of John the Steadfast!

BrothersofJohntheSteadfastYou may have noticed the new look to the Brothers of John the Steadfast site. We’ve been working behind the scenes for quite a while (embarrassingly long to be exact) and for the 2015 BJS Conference we have introduced a new look to the website.

Thank you to the many folks who have contributed over the years to the site, including Norm Fisher for content and web programming, Holly Scheer & Vanessa Rasanen for memes and writing, Jonathan Fisk for early creative concepts and Kris Brown for final creative direction and artwork. On top of them, there was also effort by a pool of BJS authors in reviewing the new site.

We hope you like it! It’s not quite finished yet; we will be adding features to it over the next few weeks. Feel free to comment on this post!

We look forward to seeing many of you in a few hours as we get together in worship, learning, and fellowship!

About Norm Fisher

Norm was raised in the UCC in Connecticut, and like many fell away from the church after high school. With this background he saw it primarily as a service organization. On the miracle of his first child he came back to the church. On moving to Texas a few years later he found a home in Lutheranism when he was invited to a confessional church a half-hour away by our new neighbors.

He is one of those people who found a like mind in computers while in Middle School and has been programming ever since. He’s responsible for many websites, including the Book of Concord, LCMSsermons.com, and several other sites.

He has served the church in various positions, including financial secretary, sunday school teacher, elder, PTF board member, and choir member.

More of his work can be found at KNFA.net.

Welcome to the NEW Brothers of John the Steadfast! — 15 Comments

  1. I feel like there’s too much gray. Seems a bit drab and lifeless. I miss having some color (any color) as the background. Otherwise, let me get used to it and see how it functions. I totally like artistic banner on top. That is truly awesome.

  2. This site loads slower than others I go to. (eBay, IMDb, ALPB, 49erswebzone, etc.) Not sure if there is a setting, or something. That awesome banner up top isn’t monstrously large (bit-wise), is it?

And with others, where are the ‘reply’, ‘quote’ and ‘post number’ features?

Trying to provide useful feedback. 🙂

  3. I visited here yesterday morning and by the time I got back all the furniture had been reupholstered!

  4. Since I’ve been banned as a contributing author for this site, I doubt BJS will ever credit me for my work, but I’m the one who designed the header about three years ago. A number of my designs appear on this site.

  5. Plus one for the “reply” button, and the numerical indicators for the posts.

Also, not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but the new site does not work on my mobile platform anymore.

The new site is perdy, but it ain’t near as functional as what it replaced.

  6. Check on the html settings. ON many articles you have the bio thing for the poster. However, it bleeds down and covers up the toggles below the article, so as to not be able to read what the next and previous posts are.

And when some topics get hot, it can overwhelm the ‘recent comments’ section. I thought it was a good idea when you/we went to 10 comments and would like to see it expand back up to that again.
