If there was ever a better argument against the Westboro Baptist cuckoo birds, and their stance that disasters are God’s way of punishing the sinful, than the fact that Pastor Randy Blankschaen is now homeless, I’d like to see it. I mean really. The guy is a saint. I have met very few people who care for others as much as Randy does, and even fewer pastors who serve their parishes as faithfully.
So what does it mean when a faithful servant of Christ and his wife have their house, car, clothing, wedding album, pets, and everything washed away in a flood? The Westboro nut-balls would have you believe that it means that Randy is a heretic, gay, a soldier or is a member of the Concordia Theological Seminary Kantorei. But no one really listens to them anyway. Why did it happen? Because weather can be stupid. But YOU are now afforded an opportunity to serve a faithful servant of Christ. You can now be a servant to a server. Here, ladies and gentlemen, is where Witness, Mercy, and Life Together hits the road and stuff gets done for the sake of the Gospel.
My brother once put opportunities like this in a brilliant way. He said, “Your pastor spends much of his time picking you up when you have fallen to the depths of utter despair, he heals you by lending his ear, counseling, and giving you the healing words of Christ. That’s his job and he loves it. But now you are in a spot to help your pastor out from the depths that he is now in. So do it.” We have a unique opportunity here. We can help pick up a pastor who has been washed away. We all have an opportunity to lift our brother from the darkest depths that he and his wife Lydia have ever seen. I implore you, dear Christians, now to, “…not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing…”
May our prayers for the Blankschaen family be many. Right now your gifts are the best material way to help this family. For ways to help other victims of the flood it can be found on the Southern District website: http://southernlcms.org/
And if I sound a little like Sally Struthers right now, so be it. Help this guy out.
We love you, Randy and Lydia!
“For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Mathew 7:8-11
