ELS History Play Now on DVD

During the summer I reported that an historical play was performed at the June convention of the ELS.

I am pleased to report that this play performance is now on available on DVD.

Oak Trees

The Oak Trees Still Stand, a play by seminary student Michael Lilienthal, presents some of the main points of the election controversy that divided the old Norwegian Synod and continues through the founding meeting of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod at Lime Creek, Iowa, in 1918.  The events depicted are not only significant for the history of the ELS but for Lutheranism in America in general, as other synods, such as Missouri, Wisconsin, and Iowa were brought into the election controversy.  The merger of 1917 gave rise to a significant portion of what today is known is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).  From this you can see the results of decades of doctrinal compromise.

The  DVD of this summer’s peformance during synod convention may be purchased at the ELS Ottesen Museum for  $10.00 or $12.50 by mail. Mail orders can be sent to Museum Director Becky DeGarmeaux at 4 Browns Court, Mankato, MN, 56001.
