Steadfast in Song: An Easter / Quasimodogeniti Hymn

thomasTune: FAR, VERDEN, FAR VEL (The Sun Has Gone Down, Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary 574)

My Savior still lives,
And I too will live in the peace that He gives;
Within me no sin has the strength to remove
The truth of His pardon, the pow’r of His love;
My Lord is arisen, now death must retreat
To utter defeat –
Christ’s work is complete.

Come near, sinners all,
Christ stands in our midst to lift up all who fall,
To bind what is broken, to heal what is ill,
To pardon transgression through God’s gracious will;
Sin, death and the devil, the power they wield
To Jesus must yield.
Our peace has been sealed.

I ask for no more.
My sins are forgiven, God opens the door
To Heaven, where sinners from each tribe and race
Are fully forgiven through faith in His grace;
The Church of all tongues to the Ancient of Days
Forever shall raise
Thanksgiving and praise.

    Tune: FAR, VERDEN, FAR VEL (The Sun Has Gone Down, Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary 575)

    My Savior still lives,
    And I too will live in the peace that He gives;
    Within me no sin has the strength to remove
    The truth of His pardon, the pow’r of His love;
    My Lord is arisen, now death must retreat
    To utter defeat –
    Christ’s work is complete.

    Come near, sinners all,
    Christ stands in our midst to lift up all who fall,
    To bind what is broken, to heal what is ill,
    To pardon transgression through God’s gracious will;
    Sin, death and the devil, the power they wield
    To Jesus must yield.
    Our peace has been sealed.

    I ask for no more.
    My sins are forgiven, God opens the door
    To Heaven, where sinners from each tribe and race
    Are fully forgiven through faith in His grace;
    The Church of all tongues to the Ancient of Days
    Forever shall raise
    Thanksgiving and praise.

    The sun has gone down
    And peace has descended on country and town;
    The songbirds in silence have flown to their nest,
    And flowers are closing their petals in rest;
    So closes my heart to annoyance and care,
    In homage and pray’r,
    In homage and pray’r.

    I praise for this day
    The Father in heaven who prospered my way,
    Who shielded from danger, protected from harm,
    Promoted my labor, and strengthened my arm;
    For hours that passed lightly as birds on the wing,
    Thanksgiving I bring,
    Thanksgiving I bring.

    Forgive me, O Lord,
    My sins and transgressions in deed and in word!
    Thou knowest my heart and my innermost thought,
    The words I have spoken, the deeds I have wrought,
    My errors and failings I deeply rehor,
    Forgive and restore,
    Forgive and restore!

    I ask for no more;
    My light I extinguish and fasten the door,
    And seeking my chamber, betake me to rest;
    Assured that my slumber this night will be blest,
    I fondly confide to Thy care and control
    My body and soul,
    My body and soul.
