Rev. Dr. Harrison should be considered our Presiding Bishop, as “President” is not a Biblical title but comes from the American political system. We are Lutherans, not Southern Baptists.
The Missouri Synod is an American corporation of individual and Evangelical Lutheran Church members; it is not a “church of churches”. The office of the synodical president is not congruent with or equivalent to the office of public ministry held by a called pastor (or bishop). The Missouri Synod has a congregational polity.
Therefore the title of President, provided by the synodical constitution, is an appropriate title for the chief executive officer of the Missouri Synod.
BTW, shown behind President Harrison is the United States Supreme Court building.
I knew that Carl Vehse would show up again to push Baptist-style congregationalism and tell me that I’m wrong.
A pastor is not a bishop. Since the first century, bishops have been in charge of entire areas of churches. That was the case with Clemet of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, and Polycarp of Smyrna, for example. These men were Apostolic Fathers, the first generation of Christian leaders following the Apostles. They would not have practiced this if they hadn’t learned it from the Apostles themselves. Therefore, a pastor cannot be considered a bishop. A bishop must me in charge of many churches. This is the episcopal form of church government, and the only one taught in the Apostles’ writings, the New Testament. It is the only one practiced for 1600 years of Church history, and the only one practiced by our Lutheran fathers.
It is not Biblical for the Church to be considered “an American corporation,” or for its government to be modeled after the US government. The LCMS is truly a church of churches, and hopefully it can someday become united into a single body with at least all of the Lutheran bodies listed here: http://www.lcms.org/page.aspx?pid=1372
May we Lutherans work to purge ourselves of all anabaptist influence, including pietism, church growth/seeker-drivenism, Charismaticism/enthusiasm, and “congregational” church government.

Yet it is still an adiaphoron whether the LCMS selects episcopal or congregational polity.

Indeed, but I think it a healthy conversation to have.
what does our Advent King see in our churches today and its leaders?-stay tuned! some of it is downright shameful and ignored
@ralph luedtke #6
Mr. Luedtke, could you be more specific?
@Nicholas Leone #3, read AC.XIV, Ap.XXVIII.13-14, the Treatise, Kirche und Amt, and, specific to the Missouri Synod, CCM Opinion 00-2202, supporting Resolution 3-19 (1981 LCMS convention proceedings).

KNOWN SEXUAL IMMORALITY-KNOWN OPEN COMMUNION push-KNOWN LIBERATION THEOLOGY AS USED IN TFBF AND URBAN SONG BOOK –requests made-REPORTS WERE SENT-LETTERS WERE WRITTEN BY SOME AND IGNORED
Ahhhh, but the Koinonia Project is going to resolve all of those problems… or at least 85% of them. And all without involving ecclesiastical supervision. 😉
let’s try finding leaders who have through their “service” promoted cg UNTIL HE/THEY HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HEAD FOR THE CONFESSIONAL HILLS AND LEAD CONFESSIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE LCMS W/O helping pastors calling for assistance in preserving God’s truth and practice——Those paychecks and perks are worth the apparent sellout and hypocrisy-syncretism and unionism-but now I/we work it the honorable correct and orthodox way.We/I can and will put on some kind of act-for the perks and paychecks-Or,is this wrong? I do not think so-and that is putting the best construction on things when you allowed the faithful congregation and servant to sway in the wind when you knew all.Am I wrong.I wish!!! And you even claimed defacto leadership and brains in your past-it’s dirty work,you say-Some have lost all because you and your buddies did nothing to correct error and outright sin
