Registration Open for BJS Annual Conference: “Getting the Gospel Doctrine to the Diaspora in an Electronic Age”

There are many confessional Lutherans and other confessional Christians who are not near authentically liturgical and doctrinal churches. There is a plethora of new media available to this “diaspora” to help fill the gap. The young bucks (Fisk, Scheer and Wolfmueller) are coming to Naperville for the fourth annual BJS Conference to uncover and explore this matter of new media in the church. As usual, it will be a thoughtful, splendid and overall enjoyable gathering. (Click here for conference details and registration.)

The conference will be thoughtful. One of BJS’s goals is to promote new Lutheran media. This conference will take you inside the head of two of Lutheran media’s most creative minds: Jonathan Fisk of Worldview Everlasting and Bryan Wolfmueller, co-host of Table Talk radio. Pastor Joshua Scheer will also help us explore the important issue of how much time we ought to spend on the internet.

The conference will be splendid. It will include two full worship services, a daily office and the Divine Service. The music will be led by Cantor Phillip Magness of Bethany Lutheran, a musician well acquainted with the Lutheran diaspora due to his many travels around the country and the world lecturing on church music and teaching others the splendid craft of authentic Lutheran worship. He is also an accomplished composer and makes his compositions available and the work of other authentic Lutheran composers via his Liturgy Solutions website. Conference worship will also be enhanced by two guest preachers: David Kind from the University Lutheran Chapel and long-time BJS supporter Thomas Messer from Alma, Michigan.

The conference will be an overall enjoyable time. To a person the hundreds of past conference attendees will tell you that the hospitality at the BJS conference provides way more fun, care and doting than poor miserable sinners ought to receive. It really is the best conference value going. The $60 registration ($40 for students) covers two days of presentations, glorious worship, guest preachers, a banquet, the manly-man’s breakfast, lunch and snacks. We also make arrangements for conference goers to spend the late night on Friday at wine tasting, cigar smoking and Irish whiskey drinking “No Pietists Allowed” parties.

If you want to extend your weekend you are welcome to any of the four weekend services at our host congregation, Bethany Lutheran, and all of the cultural features of the “second city” await you on Saturday night and Sunday.

Make plans to travel to the center of the Confessional universe, the western suburbs of Chicago (easy access via O’Hare or Midway airports – call us in advance and we will do our best to arrange free shuttle service from the airport) for a thoughtful, splendid, and enjoyable conference.
