What If Do Not See My Comment Published?

Brethren — we are still receiving hundreds of spam comments every day, and are using automated software to filter those so we don’t have to manually delete them. The problem with this is that a few comments written by real humans are being falsely identified as SPAM.

You recall our eventual solution to this problem is to require registration to comment on this website (a solution taken by many other similar sites). I don’t think that the default method of registration on the underlying software we are using is easy enough to use. I want to do some programming to simplify the process for those who write comment on this site. Unfortunately, my work on the new bookofconcord.org site has meant that my spare programming time has gone to that instead of letting me have time to work on this site.

I’ve added a notice above the comment field:

We are receiving hundreds of spam comments a day; if you have any problems getting comments posted to this site, please contact Norm Fisher. You do NOT have to give your real email; just tell me PLEASE if a comment you posted did not make it through to this site. It’s EASY for us to move a comment out of the spam folder; but it’s hard to search through hundreds of messages a day to find the few that are incorrectly labeled.

Unfortunately, since posting that, I’ve noticed a few comments written by people, at least one who posted multiple copies trying to get it to go through, but no one has emailed me telling me about it!

If you simply drop me a note saying your username, I can very easily pull the comment out of the spam filter and get it posted. You do not need to give up your true email address, simply put something like “[email protected]” and you can send it completely anonymously. Just write it fairly soon after you wrote the comment, OR tell me the “name” you used to write it, and your comment will magically appear on the site!

Thanks for your patience while we try to improve this site ..
